Edwin Frizzell is the Regional Vice President, Central Canada & Puerto Rico, and General Manager of
Toronto’s iconic Fairmont Royal York. Since his appointment in 2014, Frizzell has overseen significant
transformations across several hotel properties, most notably at the Fairmont Royal York—one of the
most substantial in its 96-year history. This project included one of the largest carbon retrofits in North
America and earned certification from the Canada Green Building Council with the 'Zero Carbon
Performance Certification’.
In his regional role, Frizzell supports notable properties including Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Fairmont
Hotel Macdonald, Fairmont Palliser, Fairmont Winnipeg, Fairmont El San Juan and Sheraton Suites
Calgary Eau Claire (a Fairmont managed hotel). With more than 35 years of experience, he began his
hospitality journey as a Front Desk Agent in his hometown Charlottetown, PEI, and went on to hold
leadership roles at top hotels such as the Delta Chelsea, Sheraton Centre Toronto, W Chicago City
Centre, Hilton Toronto, and Westin Harbour Castle.
Frizzell holds a Bachelor of Tourism & Hospitality Management from Mount Saint Vincent University, as
well as executive certificates from Cornell University. A passionate leader and industry advocate, he
serves on the Board and Executive Committees of the Greater Toronto Hotel Association and
Destination Toronto. He was honoured to be awarded the prestigious Hotelier of the Year Pinnacle
Award by Hotelier Magazine in 2019.
